On Hot Girl Pickles and Beer Girl, something that's been bothering me lately in the marketing world is brands that are specifically targeting women. Sure, it's using social media virality and gen z speak to drum up hype and consumer buy it, but it 1. alienates half the population who would maybe otherwise buy the product, and 2. I actually find the cutesy girl branding a little demeaning and maybe a little annoying lol. But that could be my cynicism talking. 🧐

I’d love to see a comparison of all of the rental services and secondhand sale services these days

Loved learning about new brands, especially Bandit’s strategy! And the “in a pickle” inspiration is cute. I could see why they are using influencers right now since there is such an influx of secondhand clothing sale services, but maybe as time goes on they can expand upon their promotion of the pieces themselves. Personally, I wouldn’t let anyone borrow a bag that expensive, so I wonder how they can guarantee the items won’t get ruined.

Okay, love that you mentioned pickle! I used it for my Halloween costume and I loved it so much! Really love how you explained it as a cross of Postmates and Depop - I feel like I'm always struggling to find the words to describe it to those who don't know what it is or who don't live in NYC. It's so simple and reliable for "when you're in a pickle" and need an outfit ASAP. You can also get really trendy expensive clothes for a special event like a birthday or just to take photos. I will say, that it is kind of crazy to me to pay $40 for an outfit that I'd rent, if it's not for a special occasion like a wedding or Halloween, I'd rather just take my $40 to a store to buy something I could keep.

Making beer cans cute and aesthetic really is the beginning of the end.... I love the idea of renting luxury goods for cheaper but I think luxury brands won't be happy about this and will find some way to ruin it.

Beer girl is so interesting — perpetuating diet culture, but also kind of selling me?? I’m conflicted!

I think it's an interesting juxtaposition between saying lower ABV but also lower calories/sugar.. because I like that it's lower in % content but the rest shouldn't be as important... they know what they are doing with that (I think, at least)

Totally. Disguising diet culture behind claims of wellness (gluten free, etc.)... Classic.
